Some exciting news from Siem Reap, Cambodia!

Phnom Kulen, a national park located a little more than 50 kilometers from Siem Reap city, was recently featured in the travel section of The Telegraph, a newspaper in the United Kingdom.

The article discusses the author’s experience visiting the mountain and surrounding areas. She provides some historical insight into Kulen’s importance centuries ago and touches upon modern archeological efforts to better understand the mountain. Finally, she enjoys some one of a kind, “off-the-beaten-path” adventures.

A major highlight of the article was her off-roading. While not advised (as some of the places she visits are active excavation sites), the author had a chance to see some of the remnants of Mahendraparvata that are still slightly buried. This includes Sra Damrei, an area with well-preserved elephant and tiger statues and carvings, that we also visit during our trip. Her account of the experience with locals on a small moped is fascinating.

As the tour guide mentions in the article, “I think this is what Angkor Wat must have been like in my grandfather’s time.”  When reading the story, we couldn’t help but feel it echoes many of our guests’ observations as well – rugged, not so touristy, raw, and authentic.

The author ends, “…2016 is the time to go beyond the stellar triumvirate of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm”. We couldn’t agree more – Kulen is finally being revealed to both locals and tourists alike and we are proud to help facilitate it. There truly couldn’t be a better time to explore it with a knowledgeable, community-based tour company.
